2012 Malt & Brew Workshop set for Aug. 22-23
April 10, 2012—Registration is now open for the third annual Briess Malt & Brew Workshop scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, August 22-23, in Chilton, Wisconsin.
Participants will experience firsthand the art of crafting and brewing with specialty malts. The Briess Malt & Brew Workshop features presentations, guest speakers and indepth tours of the unique Briess malting/roasting operation and 500-bbl brewery/extract plant.
During this two-day workshop you will learn about malting and the art of handcrafting small batches of specialty malts, the flavor and color characteristics of specialty malts to craft beer, using specialty malts to hit your target flavor, understanding a malt Certificate of Analysis, formulating and brewing with specialty malts and the barley market. A hands-on sensory class will help you better identify flavors contributed by specialty malts.
Presenters include Briess Director of Malting Operations Dave Kuske, Briess Technical Services Manager Bob Hansen, Briess Division Managers Rich Ellis, Penny Pickart and Dave Richter plus three guest speakers. This year Briess is pleased to welcome Matt Brynildson, Brewmaster at Firestone Walker, Steven Pauwels, Brewmaster at Boulevard Brewing, and Craig Reiners, Chief Operations Officer at Riverland Ag Corp., as presenters.
Preregistration is required and is limited to 40 participants currently working in a licensed commercial brewery or in a brewing-related capacity. Cost is $125.00 which includes meals.
